Rods, Rocks and Nets
There are so many great stories in the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments! I love reading them all.
Have you ever thought about how God just uses ordinary things? For instance, Moses used a rod to part the Red Sea. David used a rock to bring down a giant. Peter, James, and John used a net to haul in a boatload of fish! All of these are such ordinary objects – not anything really fabulous about a rod, a rock, or a net.
But there is more to these stories than that. God doesn’t just take ordinary things and make them extraordinary. He does that with people as well.
Think about it. Moses was an ordinary man who stuttered. David was just a young shepherd boy. Peter, James, and John were fishermen. But look how God chose to use these ordinary people.
Moses led God’s people out of Egypt, parted the Red Sea, and then they crossed on dry ground. David brought down Goliath when everyone else was too afraid to stand up to him. Peter, James, and John were definitely not the elite of their day. They were just ordinary fishermen.
But that’s what God does. He takes common people and uses their gifts and talents in ways that are exceedingly remarkable and wonderful. And do you know why? Because we serve an exceedingly remarkable and wonderful God! He is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think. (Ephesians 3:20)
So, what about you? You might be thinking you have nothing to offer. That’s not true. God is just waiting for you to put yourself, your gifts, and your talents in His hands! Then step back and see what God can do. Red Seas will part, giants will fall, and the boat will be full!!
