Lamentations

I have really enjoyed the One Year Bible Reading Plan that I am following this year. It has been such a source of encouragement to me!

But then I came to the Book of Lamentations. The very name describes a lot of what this book is about. In the dictionary, the word “lament” means to express sorrow, mourn, bewail.

“O Lord, all peace and all prosperity have long since gone…I have forgotten what enjoyment is…All hope is gone; my strength has turned to water…” Lamentations 3:17-18

Wow! That’s about as low as you can get! But this chapter does not end at verse 18.

“Yet there is one ray of hope: His compassion never ends. It is the Lord’s mercies that have kept us from complete destruction. Great is His faithfulness, his lovingkindness begins afresh each day. My soul claims the Lord as my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:21-24

If you have been “lamenting,” remember that there is one ray of hope! His compassion and love for you never ends. He is faithful! Don’t lose heart! Keep your faith, hope and trust in God. He will never fail you!
