Walking on Water
Who doesn’t love the story of Jesus walking on the water? If you grew up in Sunday School, you probably remember singing a song about Jesus walking on the water.
The disciples were in a boat and the wind was against them. Jesus came to them walking on the lake. He said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” He got in the boat and the wind died down. (Mark 6:45-52)
There is something very interesting about this story. Before any of this happened, Jesus went up on a mountainside to pray. (Mark 6:46) Jesus always sets the example for us!
I’m not saying that we will physically walk on water after we pray, but I think this story emphasizes how important prayer is. If Jesus felt the need to pray, how much more should you and I?
Our prayer life is something that should be consistent. We don’t know when we might be in “rough waters.” There are times we need to rise above the things that are troubling us.
And what better way to do this than to spend time in prayer and focus on God who can “calm the sea.” Through prayer, God will enable us to rise above our problems and be victorious!
