Power and Authority

In Luke 9:1, Jesus called the disciples together and He gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases.

Power! Authority! These are such strong words! “Power” is the ability to do or act. “Authority” is the right to control or command.

As followers of Jesus, we are His disciples. And if He gave His disciples this power and authority when He walked on this earth, then I believe we have access to that same power and authority today!

How can we activate this power and authority in our lives? I believe there are things that are necessary for this to be fulfilled in us.

First of all, we need to be anchored in the Word of God! Read God’s Word! Study it! Memorize it!

We also need to be people of prayer! Talk to God! And listen when He speaks to us!

We need to be people of faith! Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) says, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see.”

After we have prayed in faith, and stood on God’s Word, we continue to pray and believe, always with thanksgiving because we know that our God hears and answers prayer!
