The Benefits of a Thankful Heart

As believers, I am totally convinced that God desires for us to have hearts full of thanksgiving. I once read that we should “cultivate” a thankful heart. That simply means that we condition or prepare our hearts to be thankful.

We will reap some great rewards if we are determined to be thankful.

The first reward is that a thankful heart will keep us from grumbling, or as the dictionary calls it, “discontented mutter.” I don’t think any of us want to be known as a “discontented mutterer!”

A thankful heart brings glory or honor to God. There’s not a better way to witness to others than for our lives to bring glory to God.

A thankful heart also fills us with joy, delight, and pleasure. If you are feeling weak, Nehemiah 8:10 says, “the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

So today, no matter what is going on in your life, I encourage you to have a thankful heart. Not only will you be blessed, but a heart full of thanksgiving will be a blessing to those around you! When we are grateful and thankful it’s hard to not share that with others!
