What is Important to God?

Do you ever ask yourself, “What things are really important to God?”

Obviously, the most important thing is accepting Jesus and knowing our sins are forgiven. But are there other things that God cares about?

Proverbs 16:32 says, “Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.”

That’s a pretty powerful verse. Just to think that God would rather we have patience than for us to be a mighty warrior. (The dictionary says patience is endurance without complaint!) Then the verse goes on to say that God would rather I control my temper than be able to conquer a city!

That sounds great when I read it, but then I start to think about putting it into practice. For instance, how do I react when someone breaks in front of me in the checkout line at the grocery store? Or what about when someone cuts me off in traffic? Does God really expect me to control my temper then? I believe He does!

Maybe the next time this happens, I stop and think about the person doing this. What is he or she going through? There might be a reason for their behavior. And maybe instead of becoming stressed, angry, or upset, I take a minute and say a prayer for that person.

More than anything, our goal should be to please our Heavenly Father! And I think this would be pleasing to Him!
